SAHF16 Workshop #1: Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare: Leveraging the Strength of Partnership. Monday, 9am-10:30am.
The objective of this workshop is to identify collaborative opportunities and disciplines across an organizational infrastructure in order to establish a baseline for assessing patient safety initiatives. Changing a hospital's patient safety climate is critical for decreasing errors and providing optimal patient care. For these reasons, healthcare organizations in Saudi Arabia have been actively pursuing efforts to improve quality and safety of patient healthcare services. Several procedures have been implemented to improve patient safety mainly through establishing standards and initiating accreditation schemes. Characteristics of a strong and proactive safety culture are generally thought to include: leadership commitment; documenting and reporting patient errors; encouraging and practicing nurse/doctor teamwork; identification of potential operational and/or 'human' hazards; and systemic data collection and reporting for analyzing adverse events.
